So lately I have been struggling with myself.  As I approach my final few semesters of my college career, I wonder to myself, what am I going to do with my BFA in Photography?  Should I open my own business in the competitive world of photography, or should I pursue my initial goal and teach high school?  The question I have is simple, do I need a MFA to teach in high school?  I can teach general art, but I know some schools do have a photography department/ class.  I have knowledge and experience in all different venues of photography, and I've taught kids before.

I have knowledge and experience with film, darkroom processes, alternative processes, manipulation, photoshop, illustrator, dreamweaver, bridge, some lighting, photographic history, gallery and studio set-up and critiques, as well as other various areas of the craft.

I don't know where to go from here.  I believe I'd like to teach.  I have a passion for both, so why couldn't I do both?

Teaching is hard work that leaves you little energy for your own work but it also has it's rewards. I did it for 20 years and have retired and completed B.Visual Arts last year and doing Honours this year. Good to be doing it at a time in life when I can pursue my own creativity and not have to work. Good luck in whatever path you choose. I have a daughter who moved from her own photographic pursuits to producing photo shoots. She's making lots of money there.
