Too personal of a question....

I have been on a long string on duds lately, and forgot what a good one was. I think "Blink", and "Acrylic Revolution" have affected me as of late. I have also been know to fall asleep with a Danielsmith catalog, or "Juicing for life"(In case I decide to get healthy) in my arms, my husband would vouch for me!

"Moolaade", "Idiocracy", "Man on Wire","Lars and the real girl", and I could go on. However, just for old times sake, "Back to the Future".

I have been drawing since kindergarten when I won a Halloween picture contest. I can't tell you how important art has been in my life. I have done a bit of portraiture over the years, and illustrated. I never finished college with my major in printmaking. As a result, I'm self taught in watercolor, oil, and now ACRYLIC. I feel like I have been born, and that the past 15 years of drawing, and painting were all to prepare me for this new medium that thinks the way I do. It is my second set of eyes, and vocal chords.

If I stare at it long enough, pretty much anything.

uh.......

If I could make everything from scratch, believe you me, I'd be out there growin' the grass to grow the sheep, to grow the wool, to shave, and spindle, and yarn, and weave, and cut, and sew, and you get the picture. I want to know how to do EVERYTHING, because it is fascinating. You should see me in the kitchen! Needless to say I have enough hobbies for 10 lifetimes.

Hi There! Thanks for visiting my work and commenting on "Short Term Gain". You art is beautiful, such a wonderful use of shadow and light. I particularly like Monsoon Yearning. Very thought provoking. Let's keep in touch,  -Kathy

Thanks for your comments on "Aries Rising". Of course, I'm bias, I'm married to an extraordinary Aries, so I know that you're good company, and you're an amazing artist, also!

Hello Andra,

Thank you for your taking a look at my work.  And yes...were both Tucsonian's.  We definately should meet up.  I do printmaking at Pima and a Masters in Public Health at the UofA.  We can meet anytime you are available.  I live on the east side by Tanque Verde and Pantano.  Best wishes,  Gary

Hi Arking,

Thank you for your insightful comments.  You are good with words, and I like the way your eyes SEE.  You seem to be able to look long enough to get beneath the surface of things, to the throbbing life of them.  For me, much of the value of art is in the looking, the seeing, and the bringing that freshness to the surface.  Keep in touch!

I really enjoyed your answer to "Things I Like" in your profile. That is sort of the point of my work - that if you look honestly enough, without pre-conceptions of beauty/ugliness etc, things become important and meaningful through our attention to them.  A much bigger way to live, really, than conditioned seeing and judging...  love your insects.  You sound like a great person to know!

Thanks for the kind words about my piece "The Letter."  Your work is lovely. Your comment about falling asleep with a "Juicing" book in your hands made me laugh -- a few days ago I fell asleep reading "Putting Food By" about canning, pickling & preserving.

Thanks for your comments about "Close Friends". Your observations are excellent -- he kind of things I think of as I'm working on the compostion.

Glad to have you on my friends list.

Andra, Thanks for your kind words regarding "Job Security". Your analogies are always fun and inspiring. The painting does not represent, as you put it, a death mask for jobs, but more my reaction to what I'm seeing going on around me. Kind of like the expression my soul makes when I see good people doing good work being targeted for termination because companies need to make the bottom line. I know, it's a bit heavy...Just sayin'...   -Don

Thank you so much for the nice compliment on "Ameratisi".  It made me feell good, but I also know that my work pales in comparison to yours.  Karen
