Title: Tight Knit: an indie event
Description: Nov. 28th 5-9pm & 29th 10am-5pm. Open to the public. Tight Knit   is an  indie  event for  artists and artisans working in all mediums: Fine art, Zines and all manner of Craft! An event to showcase jewelry, clothing, housewares, embroidery, canvas work, collage, sculpture, cartoonists, and every other kind of  "handmade" good  by  independent artists . Born of the minds of Rachel Wrightson Naylor (TNO Vacant Storefront Artist Project/ How to Rebuild Zine) and Zhenelle Falk (Born Ready Zine/ Destroy, New York) in the dwindling hours of summer, 2008, this event is part of a movement.    With a focus on  community  and an emphasis on the  do-it-yourself  ideals of so many inspiring and creative people throughout the Northeast,  Tight Knit  seeks to support and encourage the work of  local artists and businesses  by offering a forum for the exchange, education, and appreciation of handmade, "heartmade" wares.     Tight Knit  will be a  bi-annual  event, presented in the Winter and Summer seasons in the city of  Troy, New York . The inaugural event will kick off Friday, November 28, 2008 in conjunction with Troy Night Out, and continue Saturday, November 29, 2008 in parallel with the Troy Farmer's Market.    Coinciding with "Black Friday", one of the busiest shopping days of the year in the U.S., Tight Knit's first venture seeks to motivate local consumers to reconsider their big box store purchases, and  buy local, handmade goods  from the many talented artists and vendors working in the Capital Region, Hudson Valley, Berkshires, and Southern Vermont.     Our mission  is to  organize  and  motivate  local artists, of all kinds, to share their perspectives, knowledge and creativity with others. For this reason, we are working diligently to keep the cost of tabling at the event as low as reasonably possible. We want  Tight Knit  to embody the spirit of its name: tight-knit adj 1: Closely and firmly integrated. 2: Formed or united into a whole. www.tightknit.org
