Title: About Me
Category: full of life
Blog Entry: Art has been with me all my life. I'm very passionate about it and paint every day. I love what I do therefore I'm a happy camper
I posted the following on the forum page but after writing it I thought it could be useful info for other artists.
I'm one of the older artists and tried many different forms of art. I even had my own clothing label back in the early 80's when I designed and made theater jackets. That proved to be too much time consuming work for the money I got. In the late 80's I did country type art on wood and sold to stores from Stowe Vt. to Richmond Va. I did that after doing my homeowrk on what was selling and if I could do it better. I made my own design samples and made phone app'ts with the buyer of the stores and showed my work. I took orders from the samples. It was not the type of art I wanted to do but the experience was worth it. I was in demand and did it for 5 years and it fed my artist ego. I had people blocking in the backround painting and I did the detail and the finishing of it. I did mainly Christmas type of work and did over 1,000 pieces a season. I stopped doing it in 1990 as I got burnout. It's fun to do the original pieces for the year but not fun to reproduce them when the orders came in. That experience showed me my art was worth something. I now paint on canvases doing what I want to do and pushing myself into the unknown. My hand started to be less steady but it didn't stop me from producing. I just changed my style. I do not know of anything else that challenges me the way art does. I show in juried shows and galleries but that's not my goal. Sure it's nice to get a check with every ribbon as it helps pay for supplies but my personal goal is to be the best artist I can be within my alloted time.
With the way the economy is today art is not a priority so thinking you are going to get lots of money for your creations is not reality. Look into other less expensive ways of producing your work or do what I did...see what's selling and do it better.
