Title: New World, New Man, Old Artist
Category: full of life
Blog Entry: I paroled on 8-08-08, the luckiest day of the century according to the Chinese. It's certainly a day I hope I'll never forget. The feeling of putting on real clothes...walking out the Gate...boarding a plane as a free man after so many years. I want to always remember gazing down at the world from 32,000 feet and realizing I'm now in one of those very planes I would stare up at from my prison yard...wishing. I am in a halfway house, of sorts. A recovery home, they call it. Good title. I was given $200 as "gate money" and I saved a little by selling portraits in prison, at $30 a head. I have to spend wisely. Food & shelter is covered for six months. The rest is pretty simple: Clothes, Salvation Army...Hygiene, 99cent Store...Art Supplies, luckily there's lots of stores in an artist colony. So far, I could afford bristol, a sketchpad, a 36set Prismacolors, a 6B, 4B, a couple HBs, and a kneaded eraser. All set. My first commission is of a child. Headshot w/background, 11x14, in graphite. I have permission to post it when its completed. Give me a couple days.
***I only have access to the internet on Wednesdays when they (the recovery home) takes us to the public library. I will post each time.
