That conference looks like the cat's meow. I might try a little before jumping to such heights!
The crayons I use in another way with high school students: Thick 300# paper is saturated with citrus oil and then drawn on, like a wash. Then layers can be built by using these block crayons dryer as you go. I wouldn.t try heat with the citrus oil, at least if you wanted to keep the picture and your eyebrows.
wow, I was at gregorayalbright's profile leaving him a comment and noticed your note to him and had to comment on your link about the montserrat workshop on encaustic.. I teach in the continuing ed dept at Montserrat! I didnt even know about the blogspot!! I admit, I know nothing about encaustics but find the whole creative concept very cool and love the depth.
I am totally fascinated with encaustic, and hope to give it a try. I have experimented with Stockmar crayons, but when I saw RF encaustics and their color, I thought this would be a good way to get texture and pigment. I like how you achieve depth or, translucency, so far as I can see it on the web. I think this aspect of the medium is suited as a metaphor for psychological depth, something I achieve by manipulating colors a la Kandinsky. But that has a different effect as mostly color is solid, and glazing (even with white) doesn't submerge layers the same way. I guess I am preaching to the converted, eh?
Do you use a torch to manipulate the wax after it is on the panel?
