I'm a sixty something former horse crazy kid who never outgrew the horse crazy part. I grew up in the city of Ann Arbor but prefer the country where I live now.

My training was mostly in graphic design, but I'm now following my heart as a fine art painter; mostly oils, some pastels. I also love to work in pencil. I'm a realist painter working in the classical tradition and using a palette much like that of the impressionists.

I am currently enamored of the Hudson River School artists and am branching out my subject matter to include landscapes and some wildlife.

I'm not much for describing my art with overblown hyperbole, so I'll just say that I love to paint and draw and always have; I love the process. My intent is to create beauty because I've experienced too much that is ugly.

I'm an associate member of The American Academy of Equine Art.

I'm happily married with two grown kids, two cats and a very special horse.

Horses, landscapes, light, a well-written good book, music, animals

Rude children, animal and people abuse, partisan politicians, cruel people

Riding my horse, gardening, reading, going to horse shows which is also "work"!

Thank you Karen,

We enjoy the challenge of drawing one of the most powerful symbols.

Hi Karen,

I love your equine works.  Especially Forever Friesian.  I grew up with a love of horses too and greatly admire artists like you who can capture their beauty and personality.

Kathleen
