I create bold paintings expressing my love of puns, icons and symbols, often incorporating an unexpected jolt or surprise. My aim is to show the viewer an oblique, colorful, thoughtful and meaningful view of the world. The depictions may emerge as serious, amusing or sometimes both at the same time! I wish to gently persuade the viewer into seeing the world from a slightly different perspective!
Most paintings take about 4 to 6 weeks to plan and execute. Often a phrase or situation will have inspired the narrative, which I then develop or transform in some way. Research, and several drawings follow before I arrive at the finished image to be painted. The titles of the pictures are important and play their role in reinforcing or complementing the symbolic, graphic images. |
