Ever since I was able to hold a crayon, art has been a big part of who I am. Although growing up I was always encouraged to stick with art as a future career, I only took the classes given through elementary school and one elective art class in highschool. The only type of painting I ever did as a child was with the typical paint by number oil kits that came in a box or the watercolour kits in a plastic case…I decided one time in kindergarden to colour my nails with paint as opposed to the paper given to me. My teacher was not impressed with the results of black finger nails. I couldn’t understand why I was getting in trouble? I was being creative, wasn’t I?

Most of my early works were completed with graphite, drawing was my stronger area of art. I never took painting seriously until 2005. What started me in that direction was a mural I did for the new arrival of my nephew in 2003. Two years later I did another one for his big boy room which was based on the NHL team “Montreal Canadiens”, I think it was more for my brother inlaw than my nephew. The mural took over 55 hours to complete, that’s when my little art sparks started to fly again. I sent out emails to artists from the U.S. and Canada to find out how I should go about starting a mural business and only one artist from B.C. helped me get onto my artistic track again. John Ferrie took the time to review my drawings, and photo’s of the two murals I did. He offered constructive critisism and encouraged me to work hard at my abitilites. Instead of murals, I started to paint on canvas.

All my paintings with the exception of one oil, are created with professional grade acrylics. My favorite works are based on the shores of my home land in Cape Breton Island N.S. I have completed a total of four works in the series titled “Sky Series” A few commission pieces have put the work on hold for now, but will continue to grow as time goes by. I have very little patience for oils, as nice as they blend, I prefer the quick drying of acrylics. I am a full-time dental receptionist during the week and part-time artist on the weekends. I encourage anyone who has the ability to be creative in anyway and stick with it, practice makes perfect and never give up on your talent.

I would like to say thank you for your patience to all those artists who have answered my many emails and for your support.

When I'm looking to be inspired and get the creative juices flowing I read about the artists I'm interested in. I look at their paintings and that gets me going. This may sound cheesy but another way I get inspired is watch the Pollock DVD. I watch it a lot while I'm painting. I feel that if I'm surrounded by art and inspiration I'll never be uninspired.

Thank you for the kind words about my work. Talking about color you love colors too. niceeee.

Reading your blog about yourself brought back memories about my experience with crayons. I had a huge box of them and one day I decided to take cardboard and a match and melt the crayons and drip them on the cardboard. it really came out great and I kept that for many years however my mother had a fit because I was burning matches and she thought I would burn the house down...hahah she didn't appreciate my creative side then... soo funny I was about 8 years old at the time.
