Living Large in the South, where beauty is only a light switch away!

crisp, cool, mornings, fog creeping in the valley, big fat harvest moon, a table full of food prepaired by friends w/love & laughter

nagging yackity complaining people. *(yes i whine sometimes to)... BUT there is always a one who whines more..

slow chk outs at the grocery store

people who pass you when driving and turn 50 ft in front of you.. "like there was a hurry to get there" geez! This is not a turn off. more hmm road rage!

Hi again,

I have to tell you that is a fantastic story on your blog about painting the plein air landscape! SO true, all the thoughts we have to sometime fight to just get the hell out there and paint, what to say to onlookers, etc!

The Evening Duo is gorgeous!

Is there a way to comment directly on your blog?

Hi Perry,

Thank you for your recent comment! That is wonderful to hear from you. I looked again at your beautiful gallery...I love the variety you have there, but I most of all am attracted to your landscapes, I guess because I'm so obsessed with that right now!

Off to check out your blog, too...

Thanks very much for your kind comment.

The roses series began as a formal study that I started within the first week after I moved into my studio (the fourth outside of my home in 12 years).  As each painting progressed I found meaning within the context of the roses and newspapers.  In the past few months the Chicago Tribune newspaper (represented in the paintings) has discontinued the full spread comics and has cut the newsroom staff by 90 reporters.   Dick Tracy is the comic strip that appears on the first painting of the series.  Little known to most who are not Chicagoans, Chester Gould the genius behind Dick Tracey was from Woodstock,IL, where until last month there was a Dick Tracey Museum.  The Museum had to close due to financial reasons.

The roses paintings seem to have taken on a life of their own.  Roses are symbolic of loss or in many ways a symbol of love or affection.  There are many meanings that the viewer can "read" into these paintings.  I merely painted what I saw and enjoyed playing with color and light and binging life to a simple, yet provocative subject.

Your work is lovely.  The atmosphere and stong brush work is dynamic and interesting.  Good work!

Perry, thanks for the comment, I appreciate it.

I enjoyed your gallery as well. Very nice work, distinct. I really love the first piece in your gallery-the one with the large tree and the little red barn off to the left. Very nice. Has a feeling of mystery and peace. Well done.
