A self-classified folk artist specializing in traditional "gunning" decoys and shorebirds, I create my pieces utilizing hand tools and love hearing my spokeshave sing, watching the tendrils of wood spill onto the ground, and smelling the aromatic cedar - a true smorgasbord for the senses! My work has been exhibited in museums and folklife centers in NJ and won awards at several major competitions in the mid-Atlantic region. I was honored to receive 2 folk arts apprenticeship grants from the state of NJ and participate in an NEA/Ward Museum (MD) project "Carving Out Future Mid-Atlantic Decoy Makers". These grants gave me the opportunity to study under well-known regional carvers and gain skills needed to advance my work. I teach beginning decoy carving and tole/decorative painting for two museums and also demonstrate for various arts, historic and environmental organizations in NJ.
