I work full time as a painter. while I do some figure work and still lifes, my love is the landscape. I do both plein air work as well as large studio pieces. I live in Eureka, CA, and have a studio in the old town area of my town. I have my work in galleries in Eureka, Sacramento, and South Pasadena, CA. and enter other local and national shows. All my travels are related to my work, to paint, see other art, or learn something to help me build my skills and experience.

painting, and exploring related aspect of painting, what is going on in my field, traveling to paint and see the work of other artists is all consuming, so my art is my passion, my hobby and my job.

Kathy, your work is gorgeous. Lovely atmospheric sense of place. Some of the best landscape work I've seen in decades. I would guess you can't paint these fast enough to keep up with the demand.

Beautiful work.  Your passion shows in your painting and I feel that when I see your paintings.

Your landscapes are beautiful, yet they are "knowable".  I would love to take lessons from a landscape artist such as yourself, but I never do seem to get around artists that are on your level here locally.  The work is photographic in detail, but still holds a  touch of the brush beauty that a experienced artist can add on to a scene.

Excellent work, Kathy.  These are all very strong and effective compositions, with great use of color, light/dark, lines, edges, the whole bit.  Most important, they have a wonderful sense of truth and feeling.  I rarely do landscapes, and even more rarely do plein aire, but I know good plein aire landscape work when I see it, and yours is good!

All the best,

Skip

Absolutely beautiful artwork!  You seem to able to capture difficult lighting with such ease.  Fantastic!

What beautiful landscapes! Being a Californian, I recognized my environs, but was really thrown by your profile saying you're from Eureka, Alabama! The thing I like best about landscapes is how a painter can take a definite location, filter it through their eyes, and get something totally new and at the same time recognizably that spot. I don't know if you're familiar with Jack Stuppin's work (Sonoma County) who has a highly stylized way of painting landscape. When I see Bodega Bay or the central valley almond orchards, I can see the rhythms and order his paintings have laid over the scene. Same with Wayne Thiebaud. Do you have anything in Sacramento now? I go there fairly frequently.

Hi Kathy, I'm taken with your use of color harmony and counter change; playing lights against darks. Excellent work.  Thank you for sharing your work with us.

Warm Regards, David
