Jazz, classical, pop-no hard rock

All kinds, I go through 40 a year on CD from the library when I'm driving. Like history, biography, or a good novel.

Quirky ones mostly found on late night TV on IFC (satelite TV) when I'm too tired to do anything else

My passions are Plein Air Painting (oils and watercolors) and life drawing/painting, including portraits. I enjoy painting outdoors in busy spots with lots of people stopping to chat. I like to include people in these paintings. I equally enjoy an isolated spot for landscapes, most of these are of the Thousand islands region NY, where I live.I often get commissions from people who stop to talk or sell them the painting.

My watercolor "Peppers-Byward Market Ottawa" won second place in the Painting Category in the North Country Arts Council 61st Annual Art Show,
Watertown NY in October '09.

Participated in the Art Association of Northern NY
7th annual Plein Air Derby in Sacketts Harbor NY, a two day event July 17/18. Didn't win any awards but sold both paintings.

Won first and third palce in the HMLAA PLEIN AIR CONTEST Aug 7.8, Clayton NY. Both paintings were 11x14 oil on gesso panel, Third place was purchased in the silent auction

Formed PLEIN AIR PAINTERS THOUSAND ISLAND REGION (PAPTIR)in April 2009. I organize PLEIN AIR PAINTING EVENTS which are free so birds of a feather can get together. It is open to all artists with no membership fees and most are free, some require an admission fee like state parks or other sites. We have been to winerys, Land Trust preservation sites and gingerbread cottage sites. We held a big event sponsored by The Thousand Island Bridge Authority (TIBA) at Alexandria Bay NY on July 8, 2009 at BOLDT CASTLE on Heart Island in the St Lawrence River. The castle has large amounts of daily visitors via tour boats from Aexandria Bay, Clayton, Kingston Ontario and Brockport Ontario. Posted my painting "Heart Island Hots-Boldt Castle on 7/24/09.

5/9/2009 My painting mentioned on 1/15/2009, "BETWEEN POSES" won first place in the Watercolor Division at the Art Association of Northern New York (AANNY), Sackets Harbor, which is a local show. Always get a lift from these little wins and the inspiration to keep painting.

1/15/2009 I was tickled the other day to reveive an email from WATERCOLOR ARTIST MAGAZINE informing me that the painting (Between Poses) I submitted to their CREATIVITY WORKSHOP CONTEST for December 2008. was selected as one of four runnerups and is posted on their website
Recent upload of three acrylic paintings from an October weekend workshop-THE ELEGANT LINE-inspired by Matisse, Modigliani and Picasso. It's fun to try new things and get out of the box. We worked from a model. In the Picasso example the model did four poses and we rotated the canvas 90 degrees for each pose.

12/10/08 Posted 4 watercolor portraits of staff members on Viking River Crusies- Yangtze River, China. I gave them the paintings as a token of appreciation for their great service and friendliness. I did keep one of Quing Ling. Liting had the roundest face I have ever met. More portraits to follow.

Was to China in April 08 and am painting some of the subject matter I photographed. I am focusing on watercolor at the moment because I find it the most challenging. Some of my watercolors have a Chinese Brush Painting course influence and utilize Chinese ink.I do work in acrylic, pastel, charcoal and used to do oils.

Great Art. Any Media.Plein Air painting and Figure/Life drawing and painting which I take classes in or join with other artists in open studio at St. Lawrence College, Brockville Ontario where we can share a model.

Horror Movies

Trying to get back to a little fly fishing and other fishing since I live on the St Lawrence River, but since I built my studio on the second floor of the barn last year (complete with a model stand, kitchen and bath)) I have been painting almost every day.

Thank you for the comment on my photograph of Jerzy. You are not the first to offer to assist me

I love your work in general but especially the figure work. I see now why you built a studio with that kind of work in mind.

OBTW, I've actually been to Wellesley Island to go camping many years ago. Being there leads to very beautiful work.

Thanks for checking out my work. I work in acrylics, on canvas mostly. Sometimes on masonite board. I'm always impressed with anyone doing plein air work. I still haven't gotten up the courage to try it yet - but it's on my list.

Thank you for your kind comments on my painting. I am just a student - late in life - but I am here!

I think you painting "wonderful" - feels like you are in a dream. The color are marvelous. The lower section of your painting is my favorite. I think the lady would be crazy if she didn't want it even more.

Thank you for such nice comments. Yes, the glazing etc is very tedious at times - but I guess I am destined to do this. Can't seem to do much else!

I wish you well with your venture into oils - it sounds as though you certainly have the enthusiasm revved up already. I look forward to mroe work.

Thanks again, Sarah

Thank you very much for your comments on my Chinese Brush paintings.  Your work is very nice also.  Today we are starting landscapes in my class that I teach at Soft Brush Studio.  See how it goes.

Happy Painting.

Thanks very much for your comments on my pen and ink drawings.  Drawing is my favorite medium.  I skip around from one medium to the next. That way I never get bored.
