jazz, blues, country, and a teeny little bit of hip hop.

In general a good drama, an intelligent comedy. Something that makes me think. In particular - nothing much comes to mind.

11 months ago I was newly unemployed and pondering my fate, trying to decide whether or not to paint full time or look for another job - now I am not only pursuing my dream to be a full-time artist but in the next week I will be opening my own gallery. The first art gallery ever in the little town of Red Lion, PA. I am so scared and sooooo excited!
so hey, for anyone who is doubtful take it from me - if life knocks you down just get back up; when served a lemon make lemonade; when opportunity knocks.... yeah, all those cliche's! whatever it takes to keep you going.

art, plays, good books, travel, and long walks and a lot of things that I cannot afford.

Being pigeonholed.
Closed-minded people.
Cold rain.

writing, knitting, photography, life.

The photo diaries are also WONDERFUL, and I'm sure they appreciate them. I hope you will post your grandchildren's paintings when you finish them.Nice to hear from you.

I've been in the studio doing more cleaning than painting - which is how I came across earlier "Pear" painting. Thought I'd share. and thanks to those who commented on the first Pears painting.

BTW - I paint my still life paintings using artificial fruit. (I don't really like pears)

Hello!

Thanks for your comment on Island! Before I comment on my process, I will cast my vote for FOLLOW YOUR PASSION! PAINT AND GO FOR IT...what is the worst to happen? You end up having to do something later on?

OK...when I work with abstracts I do usually start with a general idea. This allows me to pick the substrate, size I want to work in...etc. Then I will commit somewhat to a palette and just go for it. What tends to happen however, is I go into experimental mode and I allow the painting to take me where it wants to go...kind of like a good partnership. I supply the technical knowhow, and then it take me on the journey to push the limits of the tools and paints. If I am ever in a real block, then I will try not to think of anything and just throw paint and pull paint with my hands, and just attack a canvas until a vision comes about, or I start to see something emerge. Sometimes it is successful, sometimes not, but I generally leave with an idea or process in mind for the next painting!

Keep painting and shooting! Great stuff!

Rock on -

Thank you so much for stopping by and checking out my masks. I'm glad you enjoyed my gallery. I hope those ceramic harlequin dolls you spoke of start keeping you awake at night until you dig them out of the box you've hidden them away in and start painting them. Maybe that's the spark you need to "find your mojo".

I enjoyed going thru your gallery. I especially enjoyed the Pears painting. Those greens and oranges are tremendous together. Great job.

Happy Painting,   -Don

Thank you so much for your comment on LAZARUS. i have a particular fascination with that story... it has everything in it, death, life, new beginnings, but there is something melancholy about it also....

If I could retire and paint, draw, and take photos, I'd be all over it! I really like your work, and thanks again for commenting in my blog! Take care...Jeanette

Thank you for your nice comment about my Tunnel and statues. Actually they are pretty old, I "hope" I'm improving. I didn't start painting until later in life and have sooooo much to learn but I LOVE it.  Good luck with your decision on what to do. Personally I LOVE being retired and painting.

Best, Alston
