For my day job I'm the Art Director at a television station in Las Vegas. It's great to get paid to do something I would be doing anyway...After my wife & kids go to bed at night I paint - often into the wee hours.

Recently my subject matter has been masks. I have a large collection of masks and decided to start creating "portraits" of them. Come see more of my work at www.donmichaeljr.com.

Painting, Reading, attending Concerts, visiting Art Museums and Galleries.

Hey Don.  Thanks for the great comments on my Coney Island photo.  From someone who masters bold colors like you do, it's a real compliment!

Hi Don, Thank you for visiting country girl.  I did see a Magriite show in LA last year, but that was not the major inspiration.  Putting the landscape inside to capture the essence of the subject was the goal.  Stay tuned for beach girl. Cool masks! Cheers,Jude

Thanks for your pleasant comments on my senior exhibition works. I told a friend of mine that my political commentaries in the senior exhibition were opposite of traditional academia and therefore tantamount to setting a cross on fire inside a church! -Jared

Thanks for your visit to Zombtree. It's funny you should comment on my use of color- since I'm up to maybe 4 colors now- brown, blue, yellow, and if you count black.  Ok, there's a little red in the sky. Meanwhile your paintings scream with color, the whole spectrum of it.   I'm actually working on a drawing of a monkeypod tree from my trip to Hawaii. It has green!

Yeah, maybe they do see themselves a bit.  I don't know.  As long as I get them thinking at least.  Just to put that bug in their head.  I once read an article in Art in America with a huge debate over whether art should (be allowed, that is) have a moral or didactic stance to it.  I didn't think that was an issue.  Isn't that why we live in America?  I'll get off my soapbox now.

Hi Don, thanks for the compliments!  I've been told my work has some "bite" to it before.  I'm glad you found it humorous.  For the most part, people do, but I've also been told they've been "horrified" by it.  Oh well.  Thanks for stopping by my site.  I enjoyed looking at your masks.  I could see some of these as huge, 6-foot paintings.  I find the close-up ones to be very powerful.

Don,

Thanks for visiting (& commenting) on my work.

Your masks are very striking. They hold together nicely as a body of work but you are clearly expanding and exploring in each one. I particularly like "Insomnia" and "Frame of Mind". Good work!
