Few of my paintings are planed out, I have no idea what my final image will be. Most times I sit down and just start painting. A line here, a
shape there, oh, what if I paint lips here... I liken it to painting by instinct. I stop working when the vision ideas stop morphing or disappear, thus the over or underpainted look to my work.
"Automatic Writing", is the most honest and accurate way to explain the way I record my constantly morphing visions. The Surrealists and DADA used this tool, the Abstract Expressionists exploited it. ( in a good way!) I feel a strong kinship to both movements including the spirituality of Jan Van Eyke, the Flemish painters, Joseph Beuys, and romance of Caravaggio and Joel Peter Witkin.
It is my sincere hope that my paintings bring you closer to a stronger understanding of who you are and why you came to this existence. |
