I am a visual and performing artist and co-owner of the Adelante! Gallery in the Historic Paseo Arts District with Jo Vanden. I began drawing as soon as I could hold a crayon & in college fell in love with photography. A move to California inspired me to experiment with mixed media creating photo emulsion transfers, silk painted portraits and jewelry making. However, photography continued to be my mainstay. My love of western landscapes, horses, big blue sky with lots of clouds, candid shots of children & my obsession with the Virgen de Guadalupe & Buddha shrines weave their way into my weekly photo shoots. Creating Photo image and emulsion transfers on watercolor paper and silk has evolved into small and large scale mixed media works of emulsion lifts on handmade, textured tiles, laid on fabric, framed or placed in handpainted boxes or nichos. I teache workshops in Polaroid transfers for adults & children nationally. In the summer I offer mixed media photography classes at the Oklahoma Museum of Art.

I love running my gallery, looking at really blue skies with puffy white clouds, soft pastels for landscape paintings

Kavetching, slow weeks in the gallery, too many days of rain.

Working on building my cabin, playing with my horses & ponies, singing spanish songs, hanging out in the bookstore with my partner

Do I have you to thank for my images finally getting listed on the OVAC site?  I suspect so.  Thank you ! ! ! !

About your images on OVAC:  get them in pronto; it takes forever for them to be replaced and updated.  Sometimes, when I send in a new disc, the last one isn't listed yet.  I try to up date every 3 to 4 months - like they ask.  I have sent eMail about it to get it done.  The last eMail didn't get answered.  If you know anyone in the organization, you might mention this problem to them.  I assume I am not the only one.     me

Hi Cynthia,

Thank you for the kind comments on my work. Yours is a very interesting medium of which I have no knowledge. It looks quite intriguing from the textural poing and the effects you acheive.

I would love to sign up as a friend.  You said on your "site". Do you mean web site or on this page?  Are you a member of OVAC ?

I'm using a terra cotta clay that goes up to at least 6, but I only fire it to 02. That way I don't get a lot of shrinkage and warping but the work is fully vitrified so it can go outside. Some of them have been out in Vermont winters (-45 was our record) for years and have weathered well. They're painted with acrylic and sealed with a uv varnish so the color doesn't change too much over time. Thanks for your comments.
