I don't listen to as much music as I used to...when I paint I can listen to the same thing over and over. Lyle Lovett makes me laugh, Ben Harper makes me sing, Emmylou Harris and Joanie Mitchell make me emotional, Smog, Tortoise, Depeche Mode, New Order, and any industrial 80's tune make me feel like I am an art student again

The Unbearable Lightness of Being/ Milan Kundera is my all time favorite book mostly because it's one of the first books I read for myself when I graduated from high school. Now I read a lot of articles about natural parenting and nutrition. I'm joining a book club with some girlfriends to get myself back into reading something besides juvenile literature.

Recently I watched Princess Mononoke twice in 2 days which is rare for me. I'll watch all of his films over and over again which is fortunate since my daughter really likes watching them over and over...

Recently I left my career as a special educator to stay home with my 2 children. My youngest is 5 months old. I'm trying to paint regularly and start showing/ selling my work again after a 7-8 year hiatus. I've always done some work, but not on a regular basis. I'm inspired by my children's imagination, forming everyday objects into magical tools for creating new worlds. Toys take on different characteristics and functions...I am also nostalgic about my own memories of play and my favorite toys.

Playing with my kids; running; gardening; cooking; working on my house

Thanks for visiting my gallery and leaving such positive comments! I really appreciate your thoughts towards my mixed media work. You're right it is very hard to make "convincing" If you ever have any questions or help with adding objects into your art, feel free to ask me anything! I love your paintings..they have very vibrant and expressive colors and brush strokes! I especially like the "teacup" image! Hope to chat soon!~Mike(Mojodaddy Originals"

I visited your page after reading your blog entry.  I really enjoy meeting the artists on this site, especially from the "About Me" section.  I would like to suggest more contrast in your text because it is difficult to read - maybe a royal or midnight blue.  Just a suggestion.  Your work is excellent!  Lucinda

I recently left my previous career as well to be a stay-at-home mom to my 2 year old.  I hadn't painted regularly either in awhile and decided that now was as good as a time as any to switch careers and become a full-time artist.  Good luck to you!

Welcome to our group. You will meet some wonderful people here and get some inspiration. My husband is 100% Irish and I'm half, so  I know the Irish people have a lot of HEART. So just always let your heart show in your art and you can't go wrong.

Best. alston
