I have always been obsessed with jewelry. As a small child, I made rings from aluminum foil and rhinestones. In elementary school, I strung beads. I was first exposed to making silver jewelry in high school by my favorite art teacher. Unfortunately, I didn't stick with it. I went to college and studied business administration.
After spending 20 years of my life doing what was expected of me and ignoring my creative side, I was bored. A midlife crises was born, but this one didn't invole a shiny red convertible. This one involved a jeweler's torch, and of all things . . . . tools!!!?
I went back to school and studied jewelry fabrication at North Seattle Community College and also took workshops at Danaca Design in Seattle. My influences come from the jewelry I was exposed to in my childhood. The stuff of my mother's jewelry box: Modernist pieces from the 1950's, and vintage Native American turquoise. My work is also largely influenced by the art and jewelry of ancient cultures, giving it a look that while modern, also has the feel of the past.
