Married in 1981, daughter in 1984, worked in corporate America for 20 yrs before following my dream of painting full time. Share a big studio with another artist. Paint mostly in pastels, but started in w/c, and am experimenting with acrylics.

My artistic vision is to paint natural places that most people don't notice, that are slated for development, or are just plain restful and peaceful. I paint coastlines of creeks and rivers, parks, farms, swamps besdie the road - whatever gives me positive energy.

nature, virgin landscapes, the coastline of the Chesapeake Bay, sunrises on the water, kayaking, watching birds, good sense of humor, soft pastels in bright colors, working with my hands, my fingernails stained with pigment

negativity, rampant commercial development, global warming, arrogance

besides painting, drawing - kayaking, going on boat trips, taking photographs, exploring nature, reading, movies, visiting museums

Hi

My name is marlaya charleston (marlaya1 on the website)  I love your bright colors. I used to use pastels also but now am mainly working with acrylics.  I just joined art calendar website. it's really great to see all this art and you inspire me.  I need to get back to painting.  I have been so busy that I havn't been painting. I just had a big opening this weekend and I teach too.  Marlaya

what great landscapes, color and composition.  I keep trying to paint landscapes - but am concluding that I cant!......so will stick with my people and a few still lifes....but you may have inspired me to try again.

Cathy, I love-love-LOVE the colors in your art!  They're juicy and happy and really capture the atmosphere of the setting.

Hi Cathy, thanks for your email.  Yes, having a supportive husband makes ALL the difference in the world!  good for you!  and for him, you look like a fun lady!  My husband was also supportive, he passed away 6 years ago from cancer.  I miss him terribly.  I didn't start to paint until he was ill, and I do believe painting saved my life.  I got lost in the painting and didn't dwell on the pain.  It's a wonderful release of emotional journeying...I hope you are staying WARM!!!  Best, SAndy
