Over the years Artman Greg has utilized a variety of media in his work, including oils, watercolor, collage, and photography, but scratchboard is his favorite medium. "I love the way scratchboard emphasizes the dramatic contrasts between black and white. Working with scratchboard gives me a connection to my art that I don't always get with other mediums. I like making art that is thought-provoking and interesting to look at."

Thanks for your comments.  I like playing around with scratchboard some.  Usually use the same technique as I do with pens only use a knife.  Your work is great.

Hi Artman! I'm Radene Marie Cook (aka Aniwaya Art here). Your work RULES! Having worked in radio over 15 years I have a LOVE for your piece "the Disc Jockey." The fact that you can get that much "Norman Rockwell" type emotional warmth in what would seem a cooler medium is wonderful! Good stuff.

Hi Artman, Very nice website and solid artwork. Good to see a fine scratchboarder in action. I think my favorite thing about that medium is working in what we commonly assume is 'reverse'-- starting with a lovely solid black and paring away just enough bare ground to create a visual structure-- reminds me a bit of working (years ago) with lino and wood blocks. It gives strength to the compostion immediately.

As to coffee, I didn't start drinking it until 42, so maybe there's hope for you yet......looking forward to your next works.

Thanks for your comment - the piece you asked about is encaustic on paper mounted on board. I had a large copy printed at a copy shop and glued it onto a panel. Then I brushed on clear encaustic medium and then white encaustic paint (was) and scraped away to reveal the birds.

The art scene is up and coming in Red Bank and in Monmouth County in general.  Middletown opened up a gallery that is artacting some local talent but its still well in its infancy.  The antique scene is much more profound; antiques and curious are at the heart of Red Bank, along with good dining.

Like your scratchboard pieces. I would love to see you do acrylic paintings, limiting your colors to just black and white. Your subject matter is so grand and expressive, I would love to see some of that come out in your medium and process. Food for thought...
